This is a position that requires you to quickly understand how a customer does business using technology and what "points of pain" are associated with their use (or lack-of-use) of their network, workstations, printers, and scanners.
You need to have a firm understanding and be able to clearly communicate the benefits provided by:
- Proactive managed IT services
- In-house servers for security, e-mail, web presence, and collaboration
- Remote and mobile device access and communication
- Backup and disaster recovery planning
- Anti-virus and anti-spyware/adware software
Required skills include:
- Experience configuring and maintaining Windows 2000/2003 Servers and Server Services (IIS, Exchange, SQL Server, ISA Server, etc.)
- Windows Vista, XP, & 2000 desktop use
- Microsoft SharePoint benefits and configuration
- Backup and Disaster Recovery
- Secure Remote Access
- Familiarity with hardware requirements for servers and workstations
- Well-versed in TCP/IP networking and security
- Performance and event monitoring
- Microsoft Update
- Remote Control
It would be helpful to find someone who also already knows the following software:
- Symantec, McAfee, SonicWall, and AVG Antivirus
- Veritas and Acronis Backup
- Linux
- Novell Servers
We would prefer that you already had one or more Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certifications, or could quickly complete your certification track. CompTIA Network + and A + or Cisco certifications would also be helpful.
In this position, you should be able to follow through from lead generation, to business and technical assessments, proposal preparation, closing, project scheduling, and post-project followup.
